Busy Bettys,

What a busy season it has been for the Bettys. Besides hosting weekly
Saturday runs from the SheeDog House, you will have spotted boatloads
of Bettys competing at many seasonal road races around New England.
Most recent awards were earned in Derry, NH at the Boston Prep 16
Miler where Dee Bird, Kristen Dori and the ever energetic, Monique
Robitaille brought home hardware.  You will also have bumped into a
few Bettys if you were enjoying the lovely winter weather on Martha's
Vineyard a few weeks back.  On a beautifuly sunny, but windy February
morning, once again, Dee Bird, Kristen Dori and our latest rising
star, Jean Miller toughed out a very breezy 20 mile road race and
each brought home medals to add to their ever-growing collections.
Another great spot to visit in the dead of winter was Hyannis.  No
need for a beach towel and umbrella, no, you just needed a pair of
running shoes and a hotel room to use as home base to gather your
relay team for a day of fun, again in the sun!  More than 15 women
and one lucky guy converged on the Hyannis Marathon. 4 Betty teams
were entered.  What was the outcome?  One Betty team finished second
female team overall, another master Betty team  came in first in
their age group, followed by another Betty team that came in 2nd in
that same age group, while the Betty Mixed Nut team was in the most
competitive category and came in first for having the most fun. How
can we top all this? With a little run in New Bedford, of course.
Again, you shall bump into more than a few Bettys competing at the
30th Annual New Bedford 1/2 Marathon on the 18th of March.  There's
still time to sign up if you're interested.

There's more to the Bettys than just another pretty running
form...how about Women's Running Clinics?  Join the Bettys on March
13 at 7pm at the Attleboro Arts Museum for the 2nd in a 4-part series
designed specifically for women.  Don't worry if you missed the
first, which was absolutely incredible by the way.  Dee Bird
enlightened, inspired and encouraged us all in a presentation that
showed what drive, desire and determination can do for a runner at
any and every level. On March 13, Laura Hurley, from the LStreet
Running Club and also, our beloved "legs # 6" from the Bettys Reach
The Beach Relay 2004 will save us from injury.  Laura is a private
Physical Therapist and Personal Trainer and is the owner/operator of
Moving Forward Physical Therapy Plus. She will help to guide us
through the world of proper stretching.  You know, you never hold
that stretch long enough!  The 3rd session on April 3, will find us
captivated by local running phenom, Lynn Johnson.  Lynn is a
practicing Physical Therapist at Southeastern Medical Center in
Plainville, MA.  In her spare time she runs for the Boston Track
Club.  Lynn will share techniques to help us run faster, no matter
your distance.  We can all learn to get there faster, better and
stronger.  Last but not least, is Clinic #4 on April 24 with the ever
entertaining and energetic, Suzanne Cadge.  Suzanne is a National
Sales Manger for Fuelbelt and is an accomplished athlete with an
incredible sense of humor.  She will share  what running has done for
her rowing career along with how she took it many steps further and
competed in numerous triathlons and most recently, her adventures
with the Ironman competition.  Women of all abilities are welcome to
join us at the Attleboro Arts Museum at 7pm for each of these
clinics.  There will be healthy snacks provided by Pryority Foods,
wine sampling from Commonwealth Wine and Spirits along with a few
goodies supplied by DB Sports.  For more information, please contact
Sandy Sheehy at ssheehy@mindpsring.com or by calling 508-643-0626.

As the number of women out on the roads keeps growing, it is nice to
know that there is a place that welcomes you, no matter your pace or
distance. That place is the Wampanoag Road Runners and the Bettys.
Please join us for a run soon and you'll see how nice of a place the
road really is when you're running with a great group of people!  How
can you run with a Betty? Email ssheehy@mindspring.com.
